Douglas L. (Doug) Hunt
Doug Hunt is Vice President of Business Development for Farrell Construction, Inc and True Style Homes, LLC., and is also the owner of “Doug Hunt Consulting”. He and his 17-year-old son, Alex live in Joplin, Missouri. Doug founded and was owner of Sunrise Media Group, Inc., a leading marketing and public relations firm, from 1997 until 2013 employing a staff of 10. In 2013, and following the economic impact of the Joplin EF-5 Joplin Tornado, Doug closed the company and launched his new consulting venture, along with his inspirational speaking tour. At a national convention in St. Louis where Doug was the Keynote speaker delivering his speech, “Closing your GAP (Gratitude, Attitude & Passion), Peter Hobler, published author who was in the audience was so inspired, he included Doug in his book, “Courage to Find the Fire Within” with his story of using the power of gratitude to survive the night of and weeks following the disaster.

Doug is a proud father. He and his son Alex enjoy mountain biking, hiking, and photography. On any given weekend in the summer, they can be found at the lake with family and friends or discovering a new roller coaster to ride. The two of them enjoy hunting, camping, playing Xbox, going to drag races, and watching the history channel.

With 35 plus years in the media, marketing, and public relations industry, Doug remains driven to see every client, organization and small business reach their full potential, resulting from services he provides. At the beginning of his career he spent 11 years in the television industry working for both the NBC and ABC stations in Joplin, Missouri as a creative services director, promotions director, commercial producer / director, videographer, and newscast technical director.

In 1990 Doug was the youngest person ever elected to the Joplin City Council in a landslide victory at the age of 25. He served a four-year term and chose not to seek re-election. He continues to hold the record of being the youngest to serve as a Joplin City Council member. In 2014 he served with Missouri State Senator, Ron Richard on the Joplin Charter Review Commission as the request of the Joplin City Council.

In 1995, the Missouri Jaycees named Doug Hunt as one of the Ten Most Outstanding Young Missourians. In 2003, his company, Sunrise Media Group was awarded the Missouri Governor’s Cup Award for tourism marketing. In 2004, he was honored with the Silver Medal Award from the American Advertising Federation. Also that same year the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce named Doug’s company, Sunrise Media Group, Inc., “Small Business of the Year”. Doug and his son Alex survived the historic EF-5 tornado that destroyed 1/3 of their hometown May 22, 2011 forever changing their lives. His passion for life has been enhanced because of that disaster by witnessing such human suffering first hand, seeing HOPE in a new light, and being part of the love mankind can show one another in the face of such adversity. As a Keynote speaker Doug’s topics range from Marketing, Public Relations, Stellar Customer Service, team building, and Profits In Your Passion, to his most recent speech, “Closing Your GAP” (Gratitude, Attitude, Passion) that’s gained him national recognition and was inspired by experiencing the Joplin Tornado. He also conducts a seminar and gratitude workshop, taking participants on a positive life-changing journey focused on serving others in your community, conflict resolution, and being the best you can be.

His burning desire is to help others find their own passion by helping them define their “WHY” in life, to realize we are all in this life together, and to live in a deep state of Gratitude while teaching others to do the same.
