Chandra Smalley, LSCSW, LCSW - Crisis Therapist - joined the LCMHS team on February 11th as a crisis therapist. Chandra is a dedicated mental health professional hailing from the heart of Kansas, where she spent most of her life in the close-knit community of Frontenac. She embarked on her academic journey at Pittsburg State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, complemented by a minor in Developmental Disabilities. This foundational education laid the groundwork for her impressive 15+ years of experience in the mental health field, during which she has thrived in a variety of roles that have enriched her understanding of the complexities of human behavior and the nuances of mental health care.
Her diverse professional background has not only equipped her with invaluable insights but has also fueled her unwavering passion for helping others. Driven by the belief that individuals can emerge stronger through struggles, Chandra has made it her mission to provide compassionate and effective support to those in need. Her continued commitment to education led her to pursue a Master of Social Work, specializing in Clinical practice at the esteemed University of Kansas, where she proudly became an alumna.
In 2020, Chandra achieved a significant milestone by obtaining her independent licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Missouri and as a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (LSCSW) in Kansas. These credentials reflect her dedication to maintaining the highest standards of practice in the mental health profession.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Chandra is known for her vibrant personality and zest for life. She enjoys spending quality time with her family, balancing her professional commitments with her love for watching and playing sports—especially her unwavering allegiance to KU, Rock Chalk Jayhawks! Additionally, she has a deep appreciation for the ocean, often referring to herself as a "mermaid by day," and shares a unique bond with Salvy, a Golden Retriever pup, making her a true "Golden Retriever whisperer" by night.
With a unique blend of expertise, compassion, and energy, Chandra continues to make a positive impact on the lives of those she serves, demonstrating that through perseverance, we can find strength and hope amidst our challenges.
